Product Description

456 Type Thrust Bearing

Introduction:

Model 456 thrust bearing is a critical part for electric submersible pumps (ESPs). It is specially designed to withstand axial pressure and adopts a high-load-bearing structure such as tilting pad design. Combined with high-performance materials, it effectively reduces power loss and pad temperature, and improves operational stability. Suitable for petroleum exploitation and geothermal development with high lift and complex well conditions, it guarantees long-term high-efficiency operation of the electric submersible pump.

As a critical component of electric submersible pumps (ESPs), Model 456 thrust bearings are engineered for extreme downhole operating conditions, undertaking the core functions of axial load transmission and rotor positioning.

Typically fabricated from high-strength alloy steel, this bearing features an inner diameter of approximately 53.975 mm. Its outer diameter varies from 104.775 mm to 110.000 mm depending on brand and design specifications, while its thickness ranges between 27.783 mm and 65.090 mm.

This dimensional configuration enables compatibility with the slender motor architecture of ESPs, while withstanding combined stresses induced by high downhole temperatures, high pressure and high-speed rotation.

Technical Characteristics and Performance Advantages

Model 456 thrust bearings feature either tapered roller or tilting pad configurations. Optimized contact angles and roller layout greatly enhance axial load capacity. As an example, the TIMKEN 456/452DC double-row tapered roller bearing provides a dynamic radial load of 279,793 N and a static load of 165,474 N, which can steadily support the rotor assembly of high-power electric submersible pumps (ESPs).
In terms of material performance, bearing surfaces are treated with high-frequency quenching and precision grinding to reach a hardness of over HRC 60. Matched with carbon graphite or babbitt alloy friction pairs, the friction coefficient is as low as 0.002, and wear resistance is increased by 30%. Furthermore, hydrodynamic lubrication technology is incorporated into the design. An oil pumping impeller driven by the motor hollow shaft generates a continuous oil film, keeping the operating temperature within 80–120 °C and effectively extending service life.

Application Scenarios and Industrial Value

In petroleum extraction, Model 456 thrust bearings are widely adopted in ESP systems for deep wells, ultra-deep wells and high-temperature high-pressure reservoirs. Take the YQS300-185 kW motor for instance. Its upgraded sliding block thrust bearing automatically adjusts clearances via fan-shaped segments to form an evenly distributed hydrodynamic water film, delivering a 25% higher load capacity.
For geothermal exploitation, this bearing acts as a standard component for ground-source heat pump systems due to its excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature stability. Statistics indicate that electric submersible pumps equipped with Model 456 bearings achieve a mean time between failures (MTBF) of more than 20,000 hours, representing a 40% improvement over conventional bearings, which substantially reduces oilfield operation and maintenance costs.
